#Poems turned into #songs... Where does your #creative mind take you...?
Where does your creative mind take you?
As you all may be aware, I only started writing at the age of 35 and
how I came into writing is explained in the stories which I have written. My writing is all about real life, my life so far! I like to keep all my
work as real as I am, and it seems that in all these months I've been dipping
my toes in a little bit of everything when it comes to writing. I even did a
little presenting for 8 months on Salford City Radio every Saturday with Sarah
Jones on her show. I guess it was my way of finding my comfort zone and wanting
to try out new things. I feel I have so much that I want to write about with so
little time to do it in because of my full
time day job and everyday life. It is hard going, but I do my best in spite of
my circumstances! It’s a long story and maybe one I will write about it at a
later date!
Some of you may be aware that I have wanted to do a poetry book and the
poetry book I am now working on is going great. Kev has found another talent
that I knew was there, but I was unsure about the best way to go about it. I
wanted to make this vision reality as I did with the rest of my work. Life can
deal us bad cards from time to time to slow us down, but it’s what you do with those
bad cards that matters. I learnt to just get rid of all the bad cards and put
all my energy into the good positive cards, testing my boundaries once again!
Here's just a couple of my poems that I have written; one which some of you
will recognize from my blogs, and the other will be in my book that I'm working
on.
I will tell you where the idea of
writing poems came from... I was doing well with my poems and the words were
just flowing greatly, but then a few of my poems started to get a little long,
but to me they all sounded fantastic, so why take anything away from such well
written words? I couldn't, so I did what I knew I could do... Yes, I turned
these poems into cool awesome rap songs! Why did I do that, you ask? Well, we
all have an idol in the music world, if not many, but my idol is Eminem; that
guy has been through so much, but he got to where he wants to be by hard work
and dedication. He followed a dream and now look at him. I know some people may
hate him, but in life we all have the haters and if we let them win, then no
one would ever fulfill their dreams.
Thank you to 'The Brooklyn Foundation'
with the man himself, Alan Burk, who you can find on Twitter @diskdrive, he's
been recording his own music since 1983 and is very talented indeed. Thank you
to my vision which came true. He came up with some awesome music to go with
this track I had written and I sent Alan the words to this song and he loved
them. I ended up going down to his studio and recording what once started out
as a poem, in fact, we recorded it a few times before I decided to get the
lovely, Jennie Bonita in to sing the chorus, and I must say it all went
together perfectly. This was just another string to my bow, something else I
have been wanting to do and now I can turn around and say “Yes, I have written
and sung my very own song!” Basically, if we all have a vision and a dream,
create that vision, live that dream, you never know unless you try. However, if
you begin falling, don't forget it's only a setback for now, 'Trust me, I have
had many of them!' The key is not to be beaten and stay positive.
I would love to hear what you think of
this track, be warned though, it's not for the faint hearted.
